Commercial Solar Installation in East Kilbride

270kWp Commercial Solar Installation Helps Business Cut Carbon Emissions and Energy Costs

Our Solar Installation Team were contracted to design, supply, and install a 270kWp commercial solar PV system for an East Kilbride based company aiming to reduce its carbon footprint, lower operational energy costs, and support long-term ESG and sustainability targets.

This large-scale rooftop solar project is a prime demonstration of our technical expertise, design precision, and commitment to delivering high-performance renewable energy systems that help businesses decarbonise and future-proof their operations.

The 270kWp system is expected to generate approximately 226 MWh of clean energy each year, offsetting 43 tonnes of CO₂ annually; the equivalent environmental benefit of planting over 200 trees every year.

Commercial Solar Installation Case Study for Project in East Kilbride

Client Objectives

The East Kilbride business came to us with clear sustainability ambitions. Rising energy prices, ESG reporting pressures, and the company’s internal sustainability strategy all drove the decision to invest in solar PV technology.

Their goals included:

  • Reducing grid dependency and lowering electricity costs
  • Supporting ESG targets through on-site renewable energy generation
  • Demonstrating environmental leadership within their sector
  • Ensuring system safety and long-term maintainability

Our solar install team was tasked with developing a turnkey solar solution that not only maximised energy yield and reliability but also integrated seamlessly with the client’s existing infrastructure.

System Design and Components

The final solar solution was a 270kWp solar PV system featuring:

  • JA Solar 500W panels – high-efficiency monocrystalline modules offering excellent performance in UK conditions
  • SolarEdge inverter technology – advanced power optimisers and inverters for maximum output and monitoring precision
  • Renusol mounting system – a robust, industry-trusted racking solution ensuring long-term stability and weather resistance

The design process was guided by a strong emphasis on efficiency, safety, and aesthetics. We utilised PVSOL 3D modelling software to simulate system performance, shade analysis, and layout optimisation.

This attention to detail at the design stage ensured that every panel was perfectly positioned for optimal solar gain and that the installation met both performance and visual standards.

Installation and Collaboration

To guarantee safe and efficient access to the system for future maintenance, we collaborated with Roofing Advisors UK Ltd to install:

  • A permanent on-roof walkway, and
  • Edge protection systems providing full fall prevention

This partnership is a great example of our holistic approach, combining electrical engineering with practical site safety and access planning.

During installation, our inhouse engineers demonstrated meticulous workmanship, particularly in the system’s electrical configuration. We colour-coded electrical components in the fully lidded cable tray, ensuring clarity, safety, and ease of maintenance.

Results and Performance

Upon completion, the system went live and immediately began generating clean, renewable power. Based on PVSOL projections, the 270kWp solar array will:

  • Produce approximately 226,000 kWh (226 MWh) of energy annually
  • Reduce CO₂ emissions by 43 tonnes per year
  • Deliver long-term energy cost savings while stabilising the client’s exposure to fluctuating energy prices

Over its expected 25-year lifespan, the system will generate over 5.6 GWh of clean electricity and offset more than 1,000 tonnes of CO₂, playing a critical role in the client’s net-zero roadmap.

Supporting ESG and Decarbonisation Goals

This project aligns directly with the client’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments, contributing measurable progress toward:

  • Scope 2 emissions reduction (indirect emissions from purchased electricity)
  • Sustainable operations through renewable energy adoption
  • Enhanced corporate social responsibility reporting

By investing in solar energy, the company is taking a proactive stance on decarbonisation, reducing environmental impact while improving long-term operational resilience.

Our expertise in commercial solar installations ensures that businesses like this not only meet regulatory and ESG requirements but also achieve tangible cost and carbon savings.

Technology Highlights

JA Solar 500W Panels:
The high-output JA Solar modules deliver exceptional efficiency, ensuring maximum yield even in variable weather conditions typical of the UK.

SolarEdge Inverter System:
With individual panel optimisation, SolarEdge technology enables real-time monitoring and maximises energy production across the entire array. It also simplifies maintenance and fault detection, enhancing long-term reliability.

Renusol Mounting System:
The lightweight yet durable Renusol mounting framework ensures the panels are securely fixed, while maintaining roof integrity and easy service access.

Walkway and Edge Protection:
Safety was a key consideration. The inclusion of a dedicated maintenance walkway and permanent roof edge protection ensures compliance with HSE standards and provides safe access for inspections and cleaning throughout the system’s lifespan.

Attention to Detail

Every aspect of the installation reflects our meticulous approach to quality:

  • Fully lidded cable trays for added protection and a clean finish
  • Colour-coded cabling for clarity and compliance
  • Comprehensive labelling for ease of maintenance and safety audits
  • A visually impressive inverter wall, showcasing the company’s pride in its engineering excellence

These details not only enhance safety and performance but also demonstrate the level of professionalism clients can expect from a Low Energy Services installation.

The completed project, captured through drone photography and video, is almost identical to the detailed PVSOL 3D model we originally produced for the client, highlighting the precision and realism of our design process.

This 270kWp commercial solar installation is a prime example of how Low Energy Services supports UK businesses in achieving energy independence, cost efficiency, and carbon reduction.

From design and modelling through to installation and safety integration, we delivered a complete turnkey solution built to last and perform, helping the business to meet ESG and decarbonisation goals through expert engineering and sustainable innovation.
