Business Solar Panel Installers

More and more businesses are looking into solar panels as a real way of controlling their energy expenses.

The volatile nature of the energy market has put many businesses on edge in recent years and for many, there seems little they can do about it.  But having solar panels installed on the roof of your businesses building will allow you to control your energy expenses and even help your business to turn it into a revenue stream.

We are Low Energy Services and we install solar panels and battery storage systems for businesses across Scotland and North England who want to reduce their reliance on the national grid, lower their energy costs and help reduce their carbon footprint.

Solar Panels for Businesses

The process of solar panels is quite simple.  Solar Photovoltaic (PV) modules harness energy from the sun and generate this into electricity for use in and around your office building. Contrary to what many believe, Solar Panels do not require direct sunlight to generate electricity; they just need daylight to produce electricity. This means that a solar panel system can provide energy all year around, even on a cloudy day in Scotland. Solar Panels produce energy on site which can significantly reduce your businesses reliance on the national grid and the volatile and fluctuating energy prices that businesses up and down Scotland have seen so much of in recent years. By installing solar panels, your businesses can contribute to pushing the country towards net zero and relying on electricity produced using fossil fuels. And as this is self-generated it will lead to a decrease in your business energy costs too.

clever thinking from our installation team

It works everywhere

You may think that because your business is based in Scotland that solar panels won’t work. But with the latest in solar panel technology, as long as there is sunshine, solar energy can be captured and used. Scotland has anywhere between 1000 and 1500 hours of sunshine per year depending on where you are.  And those are all hours that can be used to generate energy collected from the sun.

how to lower your energy costs through green energy

Reducing your business energy energy bills

When your business takes advantage of solar panels, it takes advantage of the cost savings that come with it.  Generating your own electricity means that you will rely less on ‘the grid’. This will translate into savings on your energy bill and if you sell excess electricity back to the grid, it can become a source of income for your business. The more energy you capture from solar panels, the less you need from your electricity supplier and the more you can sell, resulting in more profit and a quicker ROI rate.

Peak times of sun matching electricity peaks

Electricity is in demand the most between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm.  And this is also when your business can take the most advantage of the sun.  Electricity generated from solar panels during these times can lower the cost of the electricity you need to purchase from the national grid and lower your business outgoings.

design and layout of solar panels

Does my business need planning permission for solar panels?

Solar panels are subject to normal building regulations whether fitted for business, domestic or commercial use. This includes checking whether your existing roof can support the extra loads of a solar panel installation. At Low Energy Services, we can carry this out for you as part of our initial site survey.

Beyond the existing building regulations, there are other things to consider including:

  • The new solar panel system should be installed so that it minimises its external appearance on the building.
  • The solar panel installation can not be higher than the building itself (this excludes any chimneys). The solar panel system cannot protrude more than 0.2 metres from the plane of the roof slope.
  • Planning permission may be required when you are intending of installing solar panels on a flat roof. This is because, due to the nature of the install, flat roofing solar panels need to be angled and therefore protrude beyond the 0.2 metres normally allowed.
  • Listed buildings commonly used for office use require consent and planning permission for solar panels to be fitted.

If your property is in a conservation zone, it may be difficult to gain permission for a solar panel installation though not impossible. We have installed solar panels for listed buildings and those in conservation areas in the past. Planning can be a complicated route but our solar panel installers can advise you on how best to proceed with permission applications.

Finance Options

Money doesn’t grow on trees and for some businesses, the initial cost of solar panels can put them off. There is however another options. At Low Energy Services, we provide something called a Solar PV Power Purchase Agreement.

Your business can take advantage of green energy immediately with a Solar Power Purchase Agreement so that you don’t have to invest in the initial cost of purchasing or fitting solar pv systems. Instead, you can commit, through a PPA, to buying discounted electricity directly from us and the solar panels we install at your commercial property at an agreed upon rate for a fixed length of time. We take care of the rest.

What is a PPA?

A PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) is a financial agreement which allows companies like yours to purchase solar energy generated electricity from companies like us with NO UPFRONT COSTS.

This allows you to take advantage of the many benefits of solar energy without having to invest in the initial purchasing and installation costs. It also means that you do not have to worry about the maintenance of the solar panel system as we take care of that as well.
