Glasgow Fire Station Headquarters Solar Installation

We are proud to announce the completion of a flagship solar PV installation at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Headquarters in Glasgow. As the nerve centre for emergency response across the region, this facility now leads by example, proving that even the most critical high-demand infrastructure can be powered by the sun.

The Headquarters required a high-output solution that could integrate seamlessly with its flat-roof architecture without compromising the structural integrity of the building. Our team designed and installed an 88.5 kWp system, utilising the facility’s expansive roof space to turn an overhead asset into a powerhouse of clean energy.

Location: Glasgow
System Size: 88.5kwp
System Output: 71048 kWh
CO2 Reduction: 33392 KG per annum
Panels: 233 JA 380w Solar Panels
Mounting: Ballasted Flat roof
Inverters: Solis

Because the Headquarters features a flat roof, our engineers opted for a ballasted mounting system. This was a strategic choice for several reasons:

  • Non-Invasive: The system is weighted down rather than bolted, meaning zero penetrations into the roof membrane. This preserves the building’s warranty and prevents any risk of leaks.

  • Structural Safety: The load is evenly distributed, ensuring the 233 high-efficiency JA Solar 380W panels remain secure even in the face of Glasgow’s infamous “windy” days.

  • Optimal Orientation: The ballasted frames allow for the perfect tilt angle to maximize the 71,048 kWh annual generation.

Powering Glasgow’s Net Zero Ambitions

This installation helps the SFRS reduce its carbon footprint by over 33 tonnes of CO2 every year.

By generating a significant portion of its own electricity on-site, the Headquarters has achieved a level of energy independence that protects its operational budget from the volatility of the global energy market. Every pound saved on electricity is a pound that can be reinvested into frontline services and community safety.

The Low Energy Services Advantage

At Low Energy Services, we specialise in large-scale public sector and commercial installations. For the Glasgow HQ, we managed the entire lifecycle of the project:

Feasibility & Survey: Assessing the roof load and energy demand of a 24/7 command center.

Bespoke Design: Matching JA Solar’s high-wattage panels with reliable Solis inverters for maximum uptime.

Precision Install: Working around the clock to ensure zero disruption to emergency service operations.
