COP26 is getting closer
COP26 is the annual UN climate change conference which this year will be held in Glasgow. COP stands for ‘Conference of the Parties’ and is attended by countries who are members of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC)
When is COP 26?
COP26 will be held between the 1st and the 12th of November in Glasgow running a year later than originally planned due to the Covid-19 pandemic. An estimated 30,000 people will be attending and with the ongoing environmental issues, it expected to be the biggest single climate event since the Paris Agreement in 2015.
What is COP26 so important?
It is not just important. It is critical. Because we need to move to more environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions and COP26 is when countries attending can meet, discuss and announce more ambitious goals and targets for reducing climate change. Climate change is the single biggest threat facing our generation and moving to clean energy is critical so that we can reach net zero by 2050 (or sooner).
How does this relate to Low Energy Services?
The power sector accounts for roughly a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions. We need to move away from coal and other polluting forms of energy generation as quickly as possible. Solar Panels, Battery Storage Systems and EV Charging Systems are ways we can move away from our reliance on fossil fuels. We need to scale up the use of solar power and become more efficient in how we use it and store it with battery storage solutions that can help reduce businesses needs for the national grid and the various coal power plants across the UK.
